Uniform
We aim with our uniform to ensure that children are smart and well-presented, and take pride in their appearance, while at the same time being pragmatic and practical.
We are very aware that buying clothing and equipment can be a financial burden to families. The school is able to support where there is financial need, and an initial confidential inquiry can be made to enquiries@awc.graceschools.org.uk. Where a child needs a uniform adaptation made (such as for a medical need) then please email enquiries@awc.graceschools.org.uk to arrange a discussion.
Compulsory Items (Branded)
The school has three compulsory items of uniform that must be purchased from the school's official uniform provider Stevensons. These are
- Blazer
- Tie
- PE reversible top
We aim to keep uniform costs to a minimum and these three items is one fewer than the maximum set by the Department for Education.
Compulsory Items (Unbranded)
The following items are compulsory but can be bought from any supplier. We have included recommended items as links below. If you want to buy from a different supplier, we strongly recommend contacting us to check the item you want to buy meets our requirements.
- Navy blue trousers (can be substituted for a skirt or shorts - please see below)
- White collared shirt with top button (not a polo shirt)
- Black or navy socks
- Black shoes (polishable material - more guidance will be published later in the Autumn to support parents)
- Navy PE shorts
- Navy PE socks
- PE trainers (any colour)
- Football boots, shin pads and gumshield as needed for particular sports
Optional Items (Branded)
The following items are optional but if chosen must be purchased from Stevensons.
- PE tracksuit bottoms
- PE additional layer
- Navy V-Neck Jumper
- Kilt Skirt
- Navy Shorts
Seasonal Clothes
Students should bring the following depending on the weather. Students will wear these clothes to and from school, and will take them off inside the school buildings.
- Waterproof coat (simple, plain design)
- Warm hat and gloves
- Sunhat, sunglasses and appropriate sunscreen
Equipment
Students must also bring the following to school everyday.
- A suitable bag
- Pencil case containing a minimum of pen, pencil, ruler and dry-wipe marker
- A calculator (model will be advised by the Spring Term
Jewellery, Hair and Make-Up
We want children to be able to express themselves, but we also recognise that jewellery is often a matter of contention in secondary schools and so to avoid these issues we keep this as simple as possible. Where students need an adaptation for a religious or cultural reason, please email enquiries@awc.graceschools.org.uk to arrange a discussion.
- Students may wear a simple analogue or digital wristwatch.
- The only other permitted jewellery is a single simple stud in each ear. Any additional piercings (e.g. nose) should be done at the start of the summer holiday to have time to heal before term begins.
- Hair should not be dyed or worn in an extreme style.
- Make up should not be worn.
If you are unsure, it is always best to contact the school in advance and we can advise on whether a style meets our uniform requirements. Please note that the headteacher will have the final say on whether a style is acceptable.
Mobile Phones
Students are not permitted to have a smartphone, tablet or smartwatch in school. A simple phone for calling and texting (a so-called "brickphone") is permitted but must be switched off at all times inside the school grounds. If a smartphone is needed for a specific purpose (e.g. diabetes management) then this must be arranged with the school in advance.
