Music at Alconbury Weald Church Academy is going to be something special. The music offer will consist of the following.
Curriculum Music
All students in Year 7 and Year 8 will have two lessons of music a week. One of these will be for the year group and focus on singing and understanding of musical culture and history. The second will be in smaller groups and focus on playing instruments together.
Visiting Music Teachers
We will be working with Cambridgeshire Music Service and other instrumental staff to create opportunities for students to learn to play an instrument, either 1:1 or in very small groups. The instrumental offer will be determined in due course, but the aim is to offer lessons in strings, brass, woodwind, percussion (including drums), guitar (including bass) and piano. Instrumental lessons involve an additional cost but the school will be looking to ensure that any child who wants to learn an instrument is able to do so.
Music Scholars
After a few weeks of settling in, we will be looking to identify our core group of musicians in the school who will form a dedicated form group with additional musical lessons over the week.
Partnerships
We are already developing partnerships with a range of organisations - watch this space!
Performances
There will be a programme of performances over the year to which parents will be invited, ranging from larger concerts (e.g. at Christmas) through to small-scale recitals and relaxed "gigs".
